Shepard Point Road Alternatives
In June, the Federal Highway Administration issued a Record of Decision for construction of the Shepard Point Road to provide access to Shepard Point, the proposed site of a deep water port in connection with the construction of the Cordova Oil Spill Response Facility. The Eyak Preservation council however says there are cheaper, less environmentally hazardous alternative sites in or closer to Cordova. The state Department of Transportation is currently soliciting public comment. KCHU's Erik Wander has more:
