Owen's Old Town

Owen Meals is perhaps best-known for bringing flight to Valdez. Many people know that Meals, who came to Alaska with his family in 1903, was also an avid engineer, mechanic and businessman. What few may realize however is that he was a documentarian, if an unwitting one. Relatives of the Valdez pioneer recently donated his home movies to the Valdez Museum. And after a conversion to digital format and some crafty editing, the result is a 52-minute film that provides a visual document of Old Town Valdez dating back to the 1920s. Next week, the museum will screen the film at the Valdez Civic Center as part of an event they're calling, "Owen's Old Town." KCHU's Erik Wander has more:
