Avalanche Closes Richardson Highway
An avalanche that occurred about a mile north of the Tsina River Bridge buried the road into Valdez Monday forcing closure of the Richardson Highway between Mile 19 and Mile 45. The road was re-opened briefly Monday night after road crews managed to clear the avalanche debris officials say measured about 100 feet wide and up to 15 feet deep. But another series of avalanches forced Department of Transportation officials to close the road again and expand the closure zone for at least part of the day on Tuesday.
