Algae Bloom Concerns PWS Citizens - 6/30/10

Residents of Ellamar and Tatilek have reported seeing algal bloom—commonly known as “red tides”—on area beaches. But the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation says most such blooms are harmless and that those seen recently in Tatitlek are unlikely the result of the Alexandrium toxin that causes Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning. Still, the DEC is urging caution in light of recent PSP concerns elsewhere in the state. KCHU’s Erik Wander has more:
