The Valdez City School District's budget for next year was finally approved by the city. The City Council passed the $9.4 million budget on a 5-1 vote during Monday night's meeting. Councilman Joe Prax was the only member to vote no. Councilman Mike Wells was absent from meeting. The District spent the last several months covering a budget shortfall. The deficit increased with a 21 percent hike in staff health insurance. The District received $250,000 from the city earlier this month to cover the costs.
