Copper River run starts strong

This year's Copper River run is off to a strong start. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, 105,300 sockeyes were caught during the first opener of the season. AD&G had projected a 41,000 catch. AD&G also reports 1,700 kings and 6,000 chums were also caught during Monday's 12-hour opener. The next opener is scheduled for Thursday from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.
As for prices, Copper River sockeyes are at $4.00 per pound. Kings are for going for $6.50 per pound. Chums are at least $0.20 a pound.
