Cordova to rename bridges for fallen veterans and last Eyak speaker

The Cordova City Council voted 5-1 at this week's meeting to rename 14 bridges along the Copper River Highway after local veterans who were kill in action during World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Another bridge will be named after Marie Smith Jones, the last full-blooded Eyak and native speaker of the Eyak Language.
Bridges at the Scott and Sheridan Glaciers, the Copper River, and the Copper Delta have been designated for the fallen vets. The Eyak River Bridge will be renamed for Jones, who died in 2008.
