Gilahina Fire UPD: Blaze continues slow burn
by Tony Gorman
The Gilahina Fire at the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve continued a slow burn throughout the weekend. That's according to park officials. Only 12 spots on the fire had smoke visible from the air. Crews from Anchorage and California were sent to monitor the blaze as another crew was reassigned. Officials say overnight rain also contributed to the fire's recent activity. Updated mapping shows the fire burned over 1,200 acres. McCarthy Road remains without restrictions.
