Gilahina Fire UPD: Temperatures continue to rise in the Copper River Basin
by Tony Gorman
Temperatures continue to rise as the humidity drops in the Copper River Basin. That's according to park officials monitoring the Gilahina Fire at the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Reserve. A Red Flag Warning was issued earlier this week due to those conditions. Temperatures rose to 64 degrees and the humidity dropped to 25 percent.
Despite the climate change, personnel from the Whiskeytown Wildland Fire Module have reported the fire still smoldering, but no visible from the air.
