The Valdez Marine Safety Unit continued monitoring response efforts to a seiner that capsized and sank over Fourth of July Weekend.
Coast Guard personnel and a crew from the contracted trawler Gladiator retrieved the Ice Maiden's net Tuesday to avoid threatening marine life and other boaters. Three vessels were also on scene to mitigate pollution during operations.
The Seward-based Ice Maiden capsized while retrieving a net full of salmon. The four-person safely escaped to a skiff prior to the incident. The cause of the capsizing is still under investigation.
