TAPS reopens earlier than expected
By Tony Gorman
The Trans Alaska Pipeline is up and running again. The Alyeska Pipeline company reopened it ahead of schedule Sunday afternoon. Following annual maintenance to two pumps and the Valdez Marine Terminal.
The shutdown didn't come without its problems. One of the newly-installed pipes on the North Slope ruptured during pressure testing early Saturday. Between 2,100 and 4,100 gallons of liquid were spilled. Officials are investigating the incident.
