Valdez City Council amends 2011 Budget
By Tony Gorman
The Valdez City Council made two amendments to the 2011 Budget during Monday's regular meeting.
The Council voted unanimously to amend the budget for various funds to cover year-end projects and authorize certain expenditures. Those projects include the Ski Tow Rope at the Salmonberry Ski Hill and replacing the roofs of Valdez High School and the Valdez Civic Center.
The council later voted, 4-2, to transfer $1.7 million from the reserve fund to the Permaent Fund. The move will effectively reverse the 1.5 percent appropriation of the Permanent Fund's market value. Council members Karen Ables and Alan Sorum voted no the resolution.
City Councilman Joe Prax was not present at the time of either vote.
