PWSRCAC seeks reconsideration over delayed tank inspection

By Tony Gorman

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s decision to allow the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company to postpone a scheduled internal cleaning and inspection of one of the Valdez Marine Terminal’s giant oil tanks is not sitting well with the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council.  The PWSRCAC announced Tuesday that it’s asking the DEC to reconsider that decision.

The tank that the PWSRCAC is talking about is the 30 year-old Tank Number 5, which was last inspected in 2001.  It was scheduled to go through the same process this summer to check for corrosion.  But, D-E-C granted Alyeska permission to delay the inspection until 2014.
