Copper River Salmon run off to a good start

By Tony Gorman

This year’s Copper River salmon run is off to a similar start like last season.  According the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, 356,000 sockeye and 23,000 king salmon were harvested following the first two runs.  That is better that last year’s 105-thousand catch following the third opening.

As for prices, canneries are buying kings at $1.50 per pound and sockeyes at $6.50.
