Cordova B-Ball teams go 1-2 in Southcentral Conference Tournament to end season

Both Cordova hoops squads were in action at the Southcentral Conference Tournament over the weekend in Seward.  Three spots in the State Tournament were on the line.  Both teams went 1-2 in the tournament.

The Cordova girls’ team opened the tournament with a 39-26 loss to Nikiski.  Rachel Thompson and Taylor Halloway each had 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs.  Lindsay Phillips led Cordova with 6 points in a losing effort.

The Lady Wolverines bounced back with a 37-26 win over Skyview.  Mallory Merritt scored a game-high 15 points. 

The girls closed out the tournament with a 50-42 loss to eventual State Tournament qualifier Houston.  NeNe Hale turned in a game-high 21-point performance for the Lady Hawks.  Phillips led the Lady Wolverines in scoring again with 13 points.

 

On the boys’ side, the Wolverines got off to a slow start with a 39-35 loss to State Tournament qualifier Seward in the opening round.  Jacob Werner had a game-high 23 points in a losing effort.

Cordova took out Nikiski in the losers’ bracket with a 60-51 win.  Werner led the way again with  a 22-point performance.

The Wolverines’ tournament run came to an end with a 60-53 loss to Houston.  Werner led Cordova with 16 points for the game.
