Groff named recipient of the First Lady Volunteer of the Year Award

By Tony Gorman

A volunteer firefighter from Cordova has been named one of Alaska’s top volunteers this year.  Richard Groff’s 40 years as a volunteer fireman in Cordova and Ketchikan have earned him the First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year Award.  Alaska First Lady Sandy Parnell made the announcement earlier today.  Groff was commended for making public safety and disaster response his core mission.  He was one of seven recipients of the award.  He’s also one of two non-Anchorage residents on the list.
