Racers prepare to rough it in the Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic

The Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic kicks off this weekend.  For the past 30 years, racers trek through the Alaska wild without any outside support.  The most commons items available to them on their journey are food and a satellite phone for emergencies.  The event has been held on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska Range, the Brooks Range, Wrangell- St. Elias National Park and Preserve, and now, Thompson Pass.  KCHU’s Tony Gorman talked with a couple of the participants in this year’s race and filed this report.
