AKDOT still searches for long-term solution for flooding

By Tony Gorman

Flooding continues near Mile 6.5 on the Richardson Highway.  The Alaska Department of Transportation had addressed the issue by building berms along that stretch of the highway.  But as KCHU's Tony Gorman reports, AKDOT still doesn't have a long term solution for the issue.

Flooding was also the cause of an outage that occurred over the weekend in Valdez and the Copper River Valley.  The Copper Electric Valley Association says member in the Heiden View and Copper River Valley areas experienced the outage last Friday night.  Power was restored early Saturday morning.

CVEA later determined that the transmission line had been knocked out of service when one of its structures near Heiden View collasped due to erosion caused by flooding from the nearby Lowe River.  As of Monday, the transmission line remains out of service.
